What to know first
- Employment Insurance may be available even if you left your job because of abuse. Call Service Canada and explain, 'just cause' provisions may apply.
- Skills for Success is a free federal program funding upgrades in reading, writing, numeracy, and digital skills. No experience required.
- Women-specific employment programs in most provinces include resume help, interview coaching, childcare support, and transportation assistance.
- Returning to school, Canada Student Loans and Grants are available, including a grant for women in non-traditional occupations.
- Many colleges have mature student programs and bursaries for women returning after a gap. Ask the financial aid office, a lot of funds go unused.
- Micro-credentials and short certification programs can get you working faster than a full degree, and often qualify for the same funding.
